How to make a Craftsman style barn door?

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the 1” x 8” pine board to the desired length (82¼”). This board will serve as the base frame of the door.
2. Cut the 1” x 4” pine board and the 1” x 6” pine board to the desired length (50”). These boards will serve as the vertical panels of the door.
3. Cut the 2” x 4” pine board to the desired length (82¼”). This board will serve as the top frame of the door.
4. Apply wood glue to the edges of the 1” x 8” board and the 2” x 4” board. Place the 1” x 4” and 1” x 6” boards between the two larger boards and use a hammer to pound them together.
5. Once the boards are hammered together, use wood screws to secure them. Make sure to measure and mark the boards before drilling the screws.
6. Place the door on a flat surface and make sure it is level. Use a jigsaw to cut two door panels in the center of the door.
7. Sand the door down and use a damp cloth to wipe away any sawdust.
8. Stain or paint the door as desired.
9. Measure and mark the location of the hinges on the door and frame.
10. Drill holes for the hinges and attach the hinges to the door and frame.
Installation
1. Measure the width of the opening where the door will be installed.
2. Cut two pieces of 2” x 4” pine board to the desired length (the width of the opening). These boards will serve as the door header.
3. Cut two pieces of 2” x 4” pine board to the desired length (the height of the opening). These boards will serve as the door jambs.
4. Position the header and jambs in the opening, making sure they are level and plumb. Secure them to the wall using wood screws.
5. Place the door in the opening. Make sure the hinges are aligned with the hinges on the header and jambs.
6. Secure the door to the header and jambs using wood screws.

This sliding barn door system is ideal for small places. It is one rail, two doors. We used 42" doors to cover the opening. Good quality and all features as promised in the description. Recomended.
I must say that I was a little bit nervous before installing this thinking that it was going to be complicated. Thankfully I was wrong it was super easy to put together and everything ended up aligned and perfect. Looks great at the same time.
I remodeled the walk-in closet by removing the door which was blocking access to cloth racks, removed the old rack hangers, fixed the wall, painted them and then build a new cabinet system with top lighting. I bought a couple different models of these rollers and decided to keep this particular one for the following reasons:
1. Can be made to fit the specific width of my barn door. Other models were based on a bigger wheel that could slide in and outward over a fixed rail. This model does not stick out further and I liked that (less of a trip hazzard)
2. Smaller wheel size looks better then some of the wheels of competitor products that had twice the wheel diameter.
3. It rolls smoothly and has held up for many weeks of usage by now.
I wish my barn door was just a few inches wider but I had limited space to work with. Overall I really like this roller and it is still going strong.
